NAWOJ FCT Hails RMRDC DG, Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike -Muonso, On Election to WAITRO Executive Board

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, heartily congratulates our esteemed Patron and Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, on his well-deserved election as the Sub-Saharan Africa Representative on the Executive Board of the World Association of Industrial and Technological Research Organisations (WAITRO).

This remarkable achievement, secured at the WAITRO Summit in Istanbul, Türkiye, is not only a personal milestone but also a significant victory for Nigeria and the African continent. It represents a strong endorsement of Professor Ike-Muonso’s leadership, professional competence and commitment to advancing research, innovation and industrial development.

WAITRO, established in 1970 under the auspices of the United Nations, is a global network of industrial and technological research organisations spanning about 70 countries. His election to its Executive Board provides an important platform for Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa to influence global research priorities, strengthen international collaboration, promote technology transfer and advance the development of homegrown solutions to industrial challenges.

NAWOJ FCT recognises that this honour is a reflection of Professor Ike-Muonso’s outstanding contributions to research, innovation and the development of Nigeria’s raw materials sector. Under his leadership at RMRDC, renewed attention has been given to the value addition of Nigeria’s abundant natural resources, local industrial capacity, research commercialisation and the promotion of indigenous technologies as pathways to economic growth and job creation.
His vision of moving Nigeria away from dependence on the export of raw materials towards a knowledge-driven, value-adding industrial economy speaks to the transformation Africa urgently needs.

We also commend the entire management and staff of RMRDC, whose collective dedication, professionalism and contributions to the Council’s mandate have helped strengthen its visibility and relevance on the global research and development stage.

This achievement is, in many ways, a testament to the institution’s growing influence.

As an association committed to promoting women in leadership, professional excellence and national development, NAWOJ FCT is particularly proud to identify with a Patron whose accomplishments continue to inspire confidence in Nigerian leadership and demonstrate the value of investing in research, innovation and institutional development.

Dear Professor, you have earned this recognition, and we celebrate you.

We wish you a successful and impactful tenure on the WAITRO Executive Board.

May your new position open greater opportunities for Nigeria, strengthen Africa’s voice in global scientific governance and accelerate the continent’s journey towards industrial self-reliance.
Congratulations, our esteemed Patron, Professor Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso.

Congratulations to the entire RMRDC family.
Together, we lead!
