Former Deputy Governor of Edo State and Director-General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has been honoured with a special award by the Catholic Men Organization of Nigeria (CMO), Benin Ecclesiastical Province, in recognition of his contributions to humanity, service to God, and commitment to societal development.
The award was presented by the Catholic Archbishop of Benin Archdiocese, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubueze, during the 25th National Silver Jubilee Celebration of the organization held at St. Paul Catholic Church, Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, Airport Road, Benin City.

The event, themed “Walking with Christ: Reflections on 25 Years of Faith Journey,” attracted Catholic faithful, community leaders, dignitaries, and members of the Catholic Men Organization from across the Benin Ecclesiastical Province.
Speaking after receiving the honour, Shaibu expressed gratitude to the Church and the organization for the recognition, describing the award as a motivation to continue serving God and humanity.

He dedicated the award to all those who supported him with prayers and encouragement during the political challenges he faced in recent years, noting that their steadfast support strengthened him during difficult times.
Shaibu said his lifelong commitment to public service has been shaped by two major influences—his devotion to God and his background in political activism, which began during his student days.
According to him, these values have continued to guide his actions and helped him remain resilient in the face of political persecution and adversity.
Reflecting on his political experiences, the former deputy governor recounted some of the challenges he encountered during his fallout with the administration of former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, including the revocation of some of his properties.
Despite the setbacks, Shaibu maintained that his faith and the prayers of supporters helped him overcome the difficult period. He appealed for continued prayers and support, stressing that some of the issues surrounding the crisis were yet to be fully resolved.
“I sincerely appreciate everyone who stood by me in prayers during those trying times. Your support gave me strength, and I still covet your prayers as the journey continues,” he said.
The silver jubilee celebration marked 25 years of the Catholic Men Organization’s commitment to evangelization, community service, and the promotion of Christian values within the Benin Ecclesiastical Province.
