Today, we join the global community to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a period that calls us to reflect, to speak up, and to take bold action. Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations affecting women, girls, and vulnerable persons in every community, including our beloved FCT.
As the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter, we stand firmly with survivors. We reaffirm our commitment to amplifying their voices, demanding justice, and strengthening the systems that protect their rights. Every woman and girl deserves to live free from fear, intimidation, abuse, and discrimination.

This year’s campaign reminds us that ending GBV is not just a women’s issue it is a societal responsibility. We call on government agencies, security institutions, traditional leaders, civil society, and every citizen to join hands in building a safer environment where women can thrive.
To our media colleagues, let us continue to shine the light on silent struggles, expose harmful practices, and promote stories of resilience and hope. As journalists, our words shape perceptions and inspire change.
To survivors, we see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
Together, let us keep the flame of activism burning from awareness to accountability, from conversations to concrete action. A society that protects its women and girls is a society destined for sustainable development.
We pledge to keep advocating, reporting, educating, and standing strong until gender-based violence is reduced to zero.
