Coalition Condemns Baseless Allegations Against NUPRC

By Sharon Akuboh

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice strongly condemns the recent insinuations by an anonymous hack reporter alleging that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) rigged the allocation of oil blocks during the 2024 Oil Licensing Bid Round.

In a Press Statement, Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator of the Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice, described the allegations as “unfounded, malicious, baseless and reprehensible.”

The Coalition notes that NUPRC, under Engr. Gbenga Komolafe’s leadership, who recently won The Sun Newspaper Public Service Award, has made significant contributions to the Oil and Gas sector, including:

  • Increased Transparency : Implementing transparent and competitive bidding processes, ensuring fairness and accountability in oil block allocations.
  • Revenue Growth : Optimizing oil block allocations, resulting in increased revenue for Nigeria.
  • Local Content Development: Promoting local content development, creating opportunities for Nigerian businesses and professionals in the oil and gas industry.
  • Regulatory Reforms : Driving regulatory reforms, enhancing the business environment and attracting investments to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Given these achievements, the Coalition finds the allegations even more egregious and believes they are intended to destabilize the sector. We urge Nigerians to reject these malicious allegations and demand that the anonymous reporter provides concrete evidence to support their claims.
