Niger Govt says teachers welfare remains paramount

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago has said the welfare and capacity of teachers in the State under the present administration will be greatly adhere to and taken as a top priority.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba made the assertion during the flag-off ceremony of a three days training workshop for lower and upper basic classroom teachers, school administrators and ECCDE teachers which took place at the Niger State Teachers Professional Development Institute in Minna.

Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba said the government is rolling out plans to resuscitate and overhaul the decayed school infrastructure in the state, noting that the state government has implemented one of the top salary scale in Nigeria and has priority to teacher’s demands and incentives.

Yakubu Garba adviced all teachers to subscribe to becoming a licensed professional and learn from the training in order to impact on their colleagues and pupils in their various schools.

Speaking at the event, the immediate past Commissioner for Basic Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammad, reiterated that the training initiative is championed by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education as part of the broader educational transformation agenda of the visionary leadership of Umaru Bago’s New Niger Agenda on inclusive and quality education at the heart of sustainable development. Saying the theme of the workshop, “Enhancing Teaching Excellence, Promoting Inclusive Early Childhood Education, and Fostering Sustainable School Leadership”, will capture the three pillars that are essential to rebuilding and strengthening basic education system in Niger State.

The Director of Niger State Teacher Professional Development Institute, Dr Hussaini Usman, applauded the Farmer Governor’s New Niger Agenda on Education, encouraging participants to make use of the opportunity in learning valuable lessons that can impact on the pupils and schools in the state.
