IWD: NILOWV Visit to AMAC Chairman We Will Empower Women…Maikalangu

The League of Women Voters of Nigeria, NILOWV, FCT Chapter paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council(AMAC) Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, on the 23rd March 2023. The team was led by the FCT Chairperson, Chief (Mrs.) Marie Enegwea. The courtesy visit was part of the Organization’s marking of the International Women’s Day advocacy & celebration.

In her speech, Chief Enegwea congratulated the Chairman for his emergence at the polls and commended him for the great input and strategies he has started putting in place since his emergence after a keenly contested election. She prayed for God to grant him wisdom to discharge his duties.

Chief Mrs Marie Enegwea went further to enumerate the purpose of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria to the Chairman and also stated some of the organization’s achievements, Aims and Objectives. Which includes sensitization of Women on the need to get registered and participate in electoral process. Which saw the statistics from INEC showing women as being more with regards to holders of PVC.

The purpose of visit was revealed to the Executive Chairman, which was in commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2023 with the theme, DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for gender equality. And also to seek for partnership/Collaboration between League of Women Voters of Nigeria and Abuja Municipal Area Council to further reach out and empower more women at the grassroot.

Hon. Mina Horsfall & Mrs Josie Mudasiru also shed more light on the purpose of the visit by further enumerating the intentions of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria and the strategies to put in place.

In response, the Executive Chairman Hon Christopher Zakka Maikalangu appreciated NILOWV for visiting him and regarding the request, he demanded for specific areas for partnership and it was stated.

Hon Maikalangu embraced the partnership, and is willing to make use of NILOWV platform to reach out to women and girls at the grassroot within Abuja Municipal Area Council. He promised to contact NILOWV for a proper kick-off Plan. The meeting was indeed a fruitful one.

Mrs Lucy gave the vote of thanks and the meeting and thanked the AMAC Chairman for Operating Open door policy and willing to partner NILOWV.

The executive chairman is very perfect gentle man who believe in inclusion and leaving no one behind agenda.
The chairman is also innovative. We celebrate him in this month of IWD and pray God grant him the wisdom like king Solomon to stir the affairs of AMAC and beyond.
