In a bid to ease mounting concerns over the ongoing road construction in Abuja, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate release of Right of Occupancy (R of O) to residents of Kpaduma and Guzape communities affected by the project.

The directive was issued during a crucial meeting held at the FCT Minister’s conference room in Lifecamp.Abuja.
Present at the meeting were traditional rulers, including the Sapeyi of Garki, Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi, community representatives, and senior officials of the FCT Administration.
Also in attendance were the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, and other top FCT officials.
The road project, which forms part of a broader infrastructural push to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in the capital city, has drawn concern from residents over displacement and fair compensation.
Addressing these concerns, the Minister assured the communities of a transparent and humane resettlement process.
“We are not here to displace anyone unjustly. This is about building a better Abuja for all,” Wike stated. “We will ensure your people are properly compensated and given legal documents for their new homes.”
The Minister announced that compensation for affected structures would not only be paid promptly but also doubled to ensure fairness.
He further directed the Department of Resettlement to urgently conduct a new valuation exercise and improve the current compensation rates.
“If they are earning N50, give them N100,” Wike emphasized, underlining his commitment to justice and equity.
The Minister also drew parallels with the Gishiri community in Katampe, where R of O documents were promptly provided during a similar resettlement initiative, assuring Kpaduma and Guzape residents that they would receive the same level of attention and dignity.
In response, the traditional leaders expressed their gratitude to the Minister for his open engagement and proactive approach. “We are grateful for the Honourable Minister’s assurance and the respect shown to our people. We will support this effort in the interest of peace and progress,” said the Sapeyi of Garki.
The meeting ended on a hopeful note, with all parties pledging continued dialogue and cooperation to ensure a smooth, respectful transition for all families affected by the development project.
