Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the coalition of northern ethnic groups from Northeast, Northwest and North Central parts of the country domiciled in Delta State under the aegis of the Igala Cultural Development Association (ICDA) have endorsed the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the governorship hopeful for Delta in the forthcoming political dispensation.

The coalition announced this at a joint press conference held at the end of their general meeting on Saturday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The northern coalition noted that “the antecedent of the Deputy President of the Senate as a unifier and excellent administrator has made the endorsement necessary”.

They also explained that having observed the calibre of personalities putting themselves up for the the next governorship of Delta State, they “decided, after due scrutiny”, to settle for Omo-Agege as their choice to succeed the incumbent.

Hon. Malik Yakubu who is the patron and chief organizer of the coalition of northern ethnic groups had earlier informed the gathering that he is in constant consultation with the Deputy President of the Senate, assuring that the coalition groups would have proper place and consideration in the eventual government of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege in Delta State.

He said, “Those of you who are here, should go back to your communities, door to door and get the votes out and spread the message that Omo-Agege is the man to vote for.

“I will bring him closer to you people, so that you can get to know him better and get a fair share in his government”.

Also in his address, the Chairman of the northern coalition groups, Amodu Usman Agebie disclosed that the coalition could no longer stand on the sidelines while other groups dictate the tone and scheme of things, noting that Omo Agege had shown a disposition that they could work and feel safe with.

“We believe he is trustworthy and has the capacity. He has done it for Delta Central Senatorial District and we believe he can do it for the whole of the State if given the opportunity as we are trying to form a synergy in Delta state”, he explained.

In his own contribution, the Secretary of the coalition, Paul Ukwelle, who is the leader of the Area bloc affirmed that massive sensitization drive has been launched by the coalition to sensitize members and communities on the potential benefits for the people of the eventual emergence of Omo-Agege as Delta helmsman.
