It’s said that the golden fish has no hiding place and this was the case as the ancient town of Biu came alive with an overwhelming show of solidarity and admiration for Hon Muktar Aliyu Betara, as thousands of supporters, youths, women groups, traditional loyalists and political stakeholders openly declared their continued support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Still in continuation of NAWOJ Media Tour through major streets to community centres, chants of “Betara Oyoyo” echoed across the town as residents described Betara as a leader whose impact has remained visible across the constituency through empowerment programmes, infrastructure projects, educational support and youth development initiatives.

Many residents said the massive turnout was not organised by force or political pressure, but was a spontaneous demonstration of appreciation for a man they described as “a son of the soil who has never abandoned his people.”

For me it was the humility of walking through the mammoth crowd, and the supporters making way for Betara to walk to the stage. The atmosphere in Biu reflected excitement, unity and confidence in Betara’s leadership style, with supporters carrying banners and placards praising his years of representation and service.

Political observers in the area noted that the growing support for Betara may not be unconnected to his long-standing relationship with grassroots communities and his reputation for delivering constituency projects across Biu, Bayo, Kwaya Kusar and Shani.

Youth groups, women at the gathering described Betara as a symbol of hope and continuity, insisting that his investments in human capital development, sports, education and economic empowerment have transformed many lives within the constituency.

Some supporters pointed to projects such as mini stadiums, boreholes, scholarships and youth support initiatives as evidence of his commitment to the people.
Speaking during the gathering, several community leaders said the love shown to Betara was earned through years of accessibility, responsiveness and loyalty to the people. According to them, the lawmaker’s consistent presence in times of need has strengthened the bond between him and the electorate.
Betara, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives since 2007 and currently chairs the House Committee on the FCT, is widely regarded as one of the most influential political figures from Borno State.
As political activities ahead of 2027 gradually gather momentum, the scene in Biu has further reinforced the perception that Betara continues to enjoy deep grassroots acceptance and massive popularity among his people.
