The Nigeria Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, His Excellency Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has charged indigenes of Abia State residing in Valencia, Spain, to serve as exemplary representatives of Nigeria and their home state.
According to a statement issued by the Embassy of Nigeria in Madrid, Spain, the Ambassador delivered the charge on Sunday, 1 November 2026, as Special Guest of Honour, during the 16th Anniversary celebration of Ndi Abia in Diaspora, Valencia Chapter.

Addressing the gathering of Abia indigenes and members of the Nigerian community, the Nigerian Ambassador and former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Ikpeazu reminded them that their conduct, industry, and integrity in their host country directly reflect on the image of Nigeria and Abia State. He urged them to uphold the values of hard work, unity, mutual support, and positive engagement with Spanish society while remaining proudly connected to their roots.

Ambassador Ikpeazu described Abians as very enterprising, one of the best tailors and shoe makers in the world, and should be proud of their rich history and identity as Igbos. He noted that the diaspora community constitutes one of Nigeria’s most valuable assets, serving as cultural bridges, promoters of investment, and informal ambassadors whose daily lives influence perceptions of the country. He encouraged the Valencia chapter of Ndi Abia in Diaspora to continue fostering unity among members, supporting one another, and exploring opportunities that can benefit both their host community and development efforts back home in Abia State.
Ambassador Ikpeazu, who assumed office as Nigeria’s envoy to Spain in September 2026 following the presentation of his Letters of Credence to King Felipe VI, expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the Valencia chapter for sustaining the association over 16 years.

He congratulated them on the milestone anniversary and assured them of the Embassy’s continued support in promoting the welfare of Nigerians in Spain and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two countries. He assured them that the Embassy under his leadership is ready to work harmoniously with members of the Nigerian community to address issues affecting them.
The Chairman of Ndi Abia in Diaspora Valencia, Mr. Endy Okoroafor while delivering his speech highlighted gratitude, resilience, recent organisational achievements, and a call for greater unity and participation.
He described the occasion as “truly a special day,” welcoming Abians domiciled in Valencia, Spain and was privileged to have in attendance the Ambassador of Nigeria, and expressed deep gratitude, pride, and joy at the strength, resilience, and unity that have sustained the group over the years.

The Chairman paid tribute to the founding members, past leaders, and elders who came together 16 years ago with a shared vision to support one another through life’s victories and challenges and to leave a lasting legacy for the next generation.
Okoroafor provided an update on the organisation’s formal status. Ndi Abia in Diaspora (formerly known as Abia State Congress in Diaspora) faced registration difficulties under previous administrations. He announced that the association is now fully registered and emphasised the enduring Abia spirit of Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya (“let no one leave their brother behind”). He stressed that Abians remain one people regardless of local government origin within the state, bound by shared identity.
The anniversary event featured cultural performances, reflections on the association’s journey, unveiling of almalac, presentation of awards and networking among Abia indigenes in the Valencia region. It underscored the growing role of organised diaspora groups in preserving cultural identity while contributing to bilateral relations.
