A Tribute to a Diplomat of Excellence and a Father Figure

By Raphael Oni, Dean of Diplomatic Correspondents

Your Excellency,

As you conclude your tour of duty as the Ambassador of Mexico to Nigeria, I find myself reflecting on the remarkable impact you have had—not only on the bilateral relations between our nations but also on my own life.

You stand as a Diplomat par Excellence. Your tenure has been defined by a rare combination of intellectual rigor, cultural sensitivity, and an unwavering commitment to strengthening the ties between Mexico and Nigeria.

You have navigated the complexities of international relations with a grace and wisdom that have not only earned you the respect of your peers but have also left an indelible mark on the diplomatic corps. You have been, without question, a true bridge-builder between our peoples.

Yet, while your professional achievements are deeply impressive, it is your personal warmth that I will cherish most.

In you, I found more than a distinguished Ambassador; I found a mentor and a father figure. Like a parent who sees potential before it is fully realized, you took the time to listen to my dreams. More importantly, you believed in them. Your encouragement, guidance, and steadfast support gave me the confidence to reach for heights I once thought unattainable. You treated my aspirations as if they were your own, nurturing them with the same care and dedication you applied to your diplomatic duties.

Your departure leaves a void, but your legacy remains. You leave behind not just a record of diplomatic successes, but a heartprint on my life.

I wish you and your family a joyful return home. May your next chapter be filled with the same excellence, warmth, and fulfillment you have so generously shared with us.

With deepest gratitude and respect,
Raphael Diplomat.
