Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC has reportedly dumped the ruling party to officially join the Social Democratic Party, SDP this Monday 10th March, 2025. He cited reasons of unresolved recurring party leadership issues amongst other reasons.
El-Rufai was said to have submitted his resignation letter to his ward in Kaduna State today after due consultation with his mentor, colleagues and loyalists across the country as stated in his X handle.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the happenings in his party as reasons for leaving
He said that happenings in his party for two years now has eroded his political beliefs especially the way governance and internal party matters have been handled led to his decision to quit and join a political party that aligns with his vision.
He called on well meaning Nigerians who share his views to join hands with him in making SDP a alternative. He expresses his commitment to promoting domestic values in his new party while reflecting on his achievement in education, healthcare, job creation and infrastructure as a two term governor of Kaduna State.
El-Rufai said “the development in the last two years in APC confirms that there is no desire in the part of those who currently control and run the party to acknowledge much less address the unhealthy situation of the party”
