The Federal Ministry of Education has partnered with the Sheda Science and Technology Complex (SHESTCO) to organize a capacity building workshop for technical education teachers. The 5-day workshop, which took place from March 9th to 15th, aimed to enhance the potentials of teachers for effective service delivery.

According to Dr. Mrs. Olodo M.A., Director in charge of Technology and Science Education, the workshop is part of the Federal Ministry of Education’s effort to build the capacity of technical teachers at all levels. The objectives of the retooling workshop include enhancing teachers’ knowledge, skills, and competences for effective curriculum delivery, connecting the curriculum with real-life situations, and handling difficult concepts using best practices.
The workshop covered various trade areas, including welding practices, machining and fittings, design and installation of solar systems, garment and shoe making, and smart security systems and home automation. Participants were encouraged to engage fully in the sessions, share experiences, and learn from one another to empower students with the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing technological world.
At the end of the workshop, participants manufactured products using the skills acquired, including pulleys for industrial application, biomass stoves, garments with various designs, footwear, and electronic devices for home automation.
The partnership between the Federal Ministry of Education and SHESTCO demonstrates the government’s commitment to addressing challenges related to skills development and poverty eradication through technical and vocational education.
