Distinguished Senators, esteemed delegates and fellow advocates I am excited to welcome you all on behalf of the Founder and BOT Chairperson, Dame Dr. Esther Uduehi, the National Executive Council, and members of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV).

We warmly welcome you to this critical Senatorial Constitutional Review Public Hearing taking place across the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. In Borno, Kano, Plateau, Enugu, Akwa ibom and Lagos. This gathering represents a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of a more inclusive and representative democracy.

To the delegates passionately advocating for the Special Seats Reserved for Women Bill, this moment is crucial. It is time to speak truth to power armed with compelling statistics and inspiring examples from countries that have successfully implemented quota systems and reserved seats to increase women’s representation in the legislature. Let us seize this opportunity to make a strong case for why women’s participation in leadership is not only a matter of equality but also essential for the development and progress of our nation.

To our esteemed Senators, today marks a moment of accountability. It is a chance to demonstrate your commitment to the democratic values that our beloved country, Nigeria, was founded upon. This is your opportunity to restore Nigeria’s democratic integrity by supporting legislation that promotes inclusivity and gender equality. We urge you to consider the long-term benefits of having more women in the National Assembly, not just for the sake of representation but for the diverse perspectives and solutions they bring to the table.

To our members of NILOWV, the time has come for us to march forward with great optimism. We have worked tirelessly for this moment, and we are confident that our collective efforts will yield positive results. As we move to the public hearing, let us stand united in our determination to advocate for the rights of women and girls across Nigeria. Let us show the world that we are a force to be reckoned with, and that together, we can achieve great things.

To the Constitutional Review Committee we appreciate your astute commitment and dedication to your duty. Your tireless efforts we certainly yield a milestone and your names indeed will be written in gold.
This public hearing is not just about a bill; it is about the future of our nation. It is about creating a society where every individual has the opportunity to contribute and thrive, It is about building a Nigeria that is just, equitable, and prosperous for all. We believe that with more women in leadership positions, we can achieve this vision.

As we embark on this journey, let us draw inspiration from the successes of other nations that have paved the way for women’s empowerment through legislative action. Let us be guided by the principles of justice, equality, and democracy.

In conclusion, I say, Long live the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV)!
