Catholic Church Celebrates Mothering Sunday with Joy and Gratitude
The Catholic Church celebrated Mothering Sunday, a special day set aside to honor and celebrate mothers, on the fourth Sunday in Lent. This year’s celebration was marked with great enthusiasm and appreciation for mothers across various Christian denominations.
At St. Augustine’s Pastoral Center in Apo Waru, Rev. Fr. Matthew Kwagas delivered a heartfelt sermon, describing motherhood as a huge responsibility and special gift from God. He emphasized the importance of celebrating mothers, saying, “Every child, husband, family, church, and society should celebrate mothers now and always.”

Rev. Fr. Kwagas also saluted mothers for their resilience, sacrifice, love, and roles in the proper upbringing of their children and smooth running of the family. He encouraged husbands to love and value their wives’ welfare, both in good health and sickness, and reminded wives to be submissive to their husbands.
After the church service, the President of the Catholic Women’s Organization (CWO) of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ann Ezeja, expressed joy and gratitude for the successful celebration. She noted that celebrating mothers gives them the opportunity to maximize their efforts in mission, evangelism, charity, and community Care-giving.
The CWO also honored some Outstanding women with the “Women of Honor” award, thanking them for their support and encouraging them to continue doing more in the house of God. The recipients of the award, including Angela (AdaJesus) and Chidinma Ugoh-Ibekwe (Madam Culture of Love FM), thanked the CWO and prayed for the progress of the group.
The celebration was a testament to the Catholic Church’s appreciation for mothers and their vital roles in society.
