A doctor from the FCTA Hospitals Residency Programme Emerges Overall Best Candidate in the West African College of Surgeons, Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has once again demonstrated its commitment to medical excellence as one of its own, Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek, emerged as the Overall Best Candidate in the Fellowship Examination of the West African College of Surgeons (WACS), Faculty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

This extraordinary achievement is a testament to the punctilious and rigorous training programme of the FCTA Hospitals Residency Training Scheme, which continues to produce world-class specialists who distinguish themselves both within and beyond Nigeria.
The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) is a prestigious professional body dedicated to advancing surgical education, training, and research across 18 West African countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and The Gambia. Standing out among candidates from across the region, Dr. Yibala Akpama Edimek won both the Prof. Bello Osaigie Prize for Overall Best Candidate and the Prof. Oladipo Prize for the Best Female Candidate in the examination.

Her remarkable achievements were recognized and celebrated in February 2025 at the 65th Annual Scientific Conference of the West African College of Surgeons, held in Bamako, Mali, where she proudly showcased FCTA and Nigeria to the world.
