Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, has reaffirmed her commitment to women’s empowerment in the state.
She spoke during the 2025 Ishielu Women’s August Meeting held at the local government headquarters in Ezillo on Wednesday.

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Princess Nkechinyere Iyioku, the governor’s wife was praised for sustaining the August Meeting initiative since 2023, which has continued to unite women and equip them with knowledge on health, family welfare, and self-development.
Princess Iyioku described Mrs. Nwifuru as “a woman with a heart of gold”, noting that her passion for women’s growth has produced visible results across the grassroots.
She stressed that the August Meeting has remained an important platform for fostering peace in homes and communities by educating women on effective family and community management.

The Commissioner further commended Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his consistent support for women, particularly through the 40% affirmative action policy, which she said has amplified the voices of women in governance and demonstrated the administration’s recognition of their critical role in societal development.
In her message, Iyioku urged women to seize the opportunity of the ongoing voter registration exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
She emphasised that the voter’s card remains the most powerful tool for sustaining democracy, urging women not only to register but also to encourage their children and families to do the same.
She also advised those with faraway polling units to transfer them to more accessible locations to ensure active participation in the 2027 general elections.
According to her, women’s involvement in the electoral process would consolidate the achievements of the present administration and further strengthen their political influence.
Highlighting the broader impact of women’s empowerment, the Commissioner reiterated that when women are informed and supported, the benefits extend to men, children, and society at large. “A peaceful and informed woman builds a peaceful home, and a peaceful home builds a peaceful society,” she said.
In her remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ishielu Local Government, Hon. Mrs. Ifeoma Peace Agwu, commended the women for their dedication to community growth and assured them of the council’s continuous support for initiatives that promote unity, empowerment, and positive change.
