FCETI Students Honour Pioneer Provost Okechukwu with Education Leadership Award

Students of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu (FCETI), Ebonyi state have conferred an Education Leadership Award on the pioneer Provost of the institution, Professor Okey Reuben Okechukwu, in recognition of his visionary and transformative leadership.

The award was presented by students of the Biology Department at the College’s temporary site in Isu.

Receiving the honour, Prof. Okechukwu described the gesture as a memorable and historic decision, noting that the progress recorded by the institution was achieved through focus, commitment and collaboration despite enormous challenges, criticism and misconceptions.

He commended the students for their patience and resilience during the formative and challenging stages of the College, describing their action as “a good seed” for the growth of the institution. The Provost urged the students to balance academic work with recreation in order to succeed in their chosen careers.

Prof. Okechukwu further assured the students that the College would commence degree programmes in line with the Federal Government Act approving dual-mode operation. He also promised the construction of an ultra-modern School of Sciences complex before the end of his tenure.

In her remarks, the Acting Registrar of the College, Mrs. Ekezie Ifenyinwa, congratulated the Provost on the award and applauded the students for recognising purposeful leadership. Similarly, the Acting Dean, School of Sciences, Mrs. Chioma Olugh, acknowledged the immense sacrifices made by Prof. Okechukwu in translating the Federal Government’s vision for the College into reality.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade Godwill Anthony, said the award was a sincere appreciation of the Provost’s deliberate commitment to the overall growth and development of FCETI. He noted that the administration’s achievements, particularly in equipping science laboratories, had significantly enhanced students’ practical learning experience and strengthened public confidence in the institution.

The students also expressed excitement over the approval for degree programmes, describing it as a major milestone that reflects visionary leadership and dedication of management and staff. They pledged readiness to embrace the new academic phase with discipline and commitment.

The award, according to the students, represents their heartfelt appreciation of Prof. Okechukwu’s vision, responsiveness and outstanding service to education, which has laid a solid foundation for the future of the College.
