FixPolitics Sets Agenda for new INEC Chairman

Fixpolitics has congratulated the newly-appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Joash Amupitan, noting that his appointment came at a defining moment for Nigeria’s democracy.

In a statement by the Executive Director, Anthony Ubani, FixPolitics charged the new electoral commission chairman to be just, people-oriented and judiciously use technology to right the wrongs of his predecessor as he embarks on the arduous task of giving Nigerians elections they would be proud of.

Noting that the conduct of credible elections is the bedrock of a stable and prosperous nation, the group said Nigerians yearn for elections that truly reflect their will; hence, the new INEC Chairman has a historic opportunity to rebuild public trust and strengthen the integrity of the country’s electoral system.

The statement reads, “We urge him to commit himself fully to the principles of transparency, fairness and accountability. Nigerians want an INEC that serves the people, not the powerful. They want an electoral system in which every vote counts and every citizen is certain that their voice matters.

“Technology must remain at the heart of our elections. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV) must work efficiently and transparently. These tools can help restore confidence in the process if used faithfully and openly.”

FixPolitics, is a citizens-led movement to structurally change and innovate politics in the world, called on Amupitan to ensure that INEC’s independence is not only proclaimed but practised.

“Let appointments, logistics and results management be guided by integrity and public interest, not political pressure.

“Nigeria stands at a crossroads. The next general elections in 2027 will test our nation’s commitment to democracy. History will remember the new INEC Chairman not by his title but by the courage and integrity with which he leads,” Ubani said.

FixPolitics pledged its continued advocacy for electoral reforms that deepen democracy and empower citizens to choose their leaders freely and fairly.
