For The Records : Erroneous Perception, With Malicious Publication, to Divert Attention From Ongoing Investigation into A Reported Attack on an Amasiri Man at His Farm at Ali Iride

The Central Working Committee (CWC) of Amasiri Town Union (ATU) received a report today, 14th June, 2025, of attack of an Amasiri Man, Mr. Boniface Akwuba, with a gun shot at Ali Iride, the disputed land between Ezeke in Amasiri and Amata in Akpoha, both in Afikpo Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

The CWC strongly condemns the attack, expressing great concern over the unfortunate incident, especially at the time the Governor of Ebonyi State has cautioned communities in land disputes to toe the line of peace.

The ATU CWC would not have joined issues with the leadership of Akpoha Development Union but to address the erroneous perceptions in a needles media battle that the leaders of Akpoha have engaged against Amasiri and her People.

This an attempt to divert attention from the ongoing investigation by the Police into the attack, as the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre has reported it at the Police Area Command, Afikpo.

It is most unfortunate and disappointing that the Leadership of Akpoha Development Union has left the main issue to make malicious publications against the good People of Amasiri, linking the attack to a cult-related violence, which is out of place.

For the avoidance of doubt, the victim who is currently receiving a medical treatment, has expressed in his statement, corroborated by his wife who was an eyewitness, that it is an Akpoha man that shot him with a locally made pistol.

What should be the concern of the leaders of Akpoha, particularly the leadership of Akpoha Development Union (ADU), is to join efforts with the Coordinator of Amasiri Development Centre and the Police to unravel the incident.

The ADU leadership, like every other Town Union leadership, should be a platform of peace to assist the government at the grassroots, not a platform for engaging in negative media propaganda

The position of ADU Leadership on the reported attack is leaving the substance to pursue the shadow. One wonders at what point that the internal affairs of Amasiri and her People have become a burden on Akpoha.

We, therefore, call on the People of Akpoha, particularly the leaders and stakeholders, to stop the needless media propaganda and face the reality in the reported attack. The ATU CWC is not interested in cheap popularity but peaceful resolution of the land dispute, as communal clashes, in whatever disguise, are ill wind that blows no good for anyone.
