In a demonstration of service beyond politics, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a comprehensive statewide medical and surgical outreach across Taraba State to commemorate the 58th birthday of its National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda Goshwe.
Rather than limiting the celebration to ceremonies and goodwill messages, the ruling party has chosen to mark the milestone by delivering life-changing healthcare services to thousands of residents, particularly those in vulnerable and underserved communities. The initiative reflects the party’s commitment to translating the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda into practical interventions that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
The five-day outreach, which began on August 3, 2026, is providing free medical consultations, health screening, medicines, wound care, counselling, emergency medical services, health education, and both free and subsidised surgical procedures. The programme will run until August 7, while the official flag-off ceremony is scheduled for August 8 at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jalingo.
At the First Referral Hospital, Sunkani, in Ardo Kola Local Government Area, medical personnel commenced treatment of patients as residents turned out in large numbers to benefit from the intervention. Similar activities are simultaneously taking place across the state’s three senatorial districts to ensure that the programme reaches as many communities as possible.
In the Southern Senatorial District, healthcare services are being provided at the Federal University Teaching Hospital, Wukari, and General Hospital, Takum. Beneficiaries in the Central Senatorial District are receiving treatment at General Hospital, Bali, and General Hospital, Gembu. Meanwhile, residents of the Northern Senatorial District are accessing healthcare at General Hospital, Bambur, in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, as well as the First Referral Hospital, Sunkani.
The outreach is being implemented through a strategic collaboration between the Taraba State Ministry of Health and the Libertad Health Foundation, underscoring the importance of partnership in expanding access to quality healthcare and reducing the financial burden associated with medical treatment.
Beyond treating illnesses, the programme places strong emphasis on preventive healthcare through public health education and patient counselling, encouraging healthier lifestyles and early detection of diseases. Organisers believe that such interventions will contribute significantly to improved health outcomes and stronger communities across the state.
Carrying the inspiring theme, “Healing Lives, Restoring Hope, Building Healthier Communities,” the initiative also promotes the messages “Free Medical Services for All,” “Together We Celebrate Life and Service,” and “Renewed Hope, Better Health, Stronger Taraba.” These messages reinforce the philosophy that quality healthcare should remain accessible to every citizen, regardless of economic status.
For many residents, the outreach represents more than a birthday celebration. It offers renewed hope, relief from the burden of medical expenses, and access to healthcare services that may otherwise remain beyond their reach.
As Taraba communities continue to benefit from the programme, the medical outreach stands as a practical example of humanitarian leadership—one that places people at the centre of governance and demonstrates how public service can leave a lasting impact on society.
