Imo PDP Unites As Anyanwu Calls for Calm, Begins Reconciliation of Aggrieved Members
National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and lead contender in the November 11, 2023 Governorship election in Imo state, Senator Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu has commenced genuine reconciliation of aggrieved party members in order to have a united party ahead of Governorship election.
To achieve the feat, Anyanwu met with PDP local government Chairmen and select party leaders at the party Secretariat, along Okigwe road, Owerri on Monday. He told them that once genuine reconciliation is achieved, all respects and recognitions due for them and other critical party leaders must be accorded to them.
Anyanwu charged them to be open minded in the cause of bringing everyone together, adding that the major work that will guarantee peace, unity and cooperation in the party must come from them.
The PDP National Secretary enjoins the party Chairmen to step up in their duties by cushioning members still in the habit of writing and circulating fake and embarrassing stories against party leaders to desist to avoid sanction by the leadership of the party in the state.
He said, “As critical leaders, every Chairman should participate in the process of curbing division. All due respects accrue to party chairmen and leaders must be accorded to them. We may not see the forthcoming election as a do or die thing, but we must be strategic in our ideas. No one should live on apprehension of the unknown irrespective of where you belong.”
“Our Party should embark on genuine reconciliation to bring aggrieved members on one table. Let us see ourselves as one under a large umbrella of PDP. Our party’s decision for a consensus candidate is the best in the history of PDP in Imo state. The notion that Imo PDP is factionalized should be ignored. The best thing to happen to our party at this critical time is for us to work together. In doing this, all our party members that purchased delegate forms but could not proceed due to the withdrawal of my brother, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha will be treated the same way the successful delegates that will vote in our primary are treated. This is to give everyone a sense of belonging that we are one”
According to him, the only hope left for members of PDP in the state is for the party to win the forthcoming election, expressing optimism that the victory will change people’s mindsets that PDP is still grounded and popular in Imo state and South East at large.
While advising the Chairmen and concerned party members to do their best in the task of reconciliation in order to bring aggrieved members under one table, also promised to provide all necessary materials that can guarantee genuine peace, unity, cooperation in the party.
