In a decisive step towards strengthening HIV and tuberculosis (TB) services in Kano State, the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA), under the leadership of its Director General, Dr. Usman Bashir, alongside his management team, carried out an on-site assessment visit to Waziri Gidado Hospital.

The visit, which followed deliberations at the recent HIV/TB Technical Working Group meeting, identified critical service gaps affecting the effective delivery of HIV and TB care at the facility. Among the challenges noted was the absence of functional x-ray services, despite the availability of an x-ray machine donated to the TB program at another facility. However, the alternative facility currently lacks a stable power supply and man power to operate the machine. To ensure efficient utilization of resources, KSACA is considering the relocation of the equipment to Waziri Gidado Hospital, where power availability is relatively stable.
Furthermore, the team observed that the HIV clinic at Waziri Gidado Hospital is not fully constructed, posing significant obstacles to service delivery. In response, KSACA will initiate collaboration with the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) and the Department of Physical Planning to design and construct a functional HIV-TB clinic within the hospital premises. The assessment visit also included technical reviews with the hospital management to chart a sustainable path forward.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Bashir emphasized KSACA’s commitment to bridging gaps in HIV and TB service delivery across the state. He noted that addressing infrastructural and technical challenges remains central to improving access and quality of care for clients.
This intervention marks another milestone in KSACA’s drive to integrate HIV and TB services in Kano, ensuring that no patient is left behind in the fight against both epidemics.
