Kona Chiefdom: Ensure unity, peaceful coexistence in your domains- Kuru Kona charges District and village heads

In his efforts towards forstering peaceful coexistence in Kona Chiefdom of Jalingo Local government area, the Chief of Kona, HRH Augustine Njenmang Venkani has organize sensitization for District and Village heads in the Chiefdom.

He emphasize more on the importance of peaceful coexistence in their domains irrespective of Religious and Tribal differences, adding that without peace there will be no development.

“I charge you to go and do justice to all irrespective of Religious and Tribal differences.
“I also charge you to live up to expectations, for all eyes are on you.

A Communique was issued at the end of the sensitization. Full text of the Communique reads,

  1. Community leaders were charged to exercise their duties with justice and fairness
  2. Government should make provision in the Constitution for the role of Traditional Leaders which will in turn again recognition and respect for them in the society
  3. In an event of land transaction between buyers and sellers, where lawyers services were employed, the Ward or Village Head should be involved
  4. Government should reintroduce the collection of revenue in the community by Ward Heads to Local government and in turn some percentage be given to them as motivation
  5. Provision for training and retraining of vigilante in the community so as to equip them with knowledge and skills for conflict resolution
  6. Whenever there is misunderstanding between Herders and Farmers, they should always resort to traditional rulers for settlement and not taking the laws into their hands
  7. Government should also endeavor to provide accommodation for traditional rulers so as to enhance their performance.

The Chiefdom has seven Districts and over Thirty Village Heads under it’s supervision.

Kona Chiefdom is amongst the Chiefdoms that are experiencing various crises ranging from religious and tribal which of recent was that of Farmers and Herders that led to the destructions of lives and Properties worth millions of Naira.
