As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2025 Catholic Mother’s Day, the immediate past Edo State deputy governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged parents to teach their children the virtues of godliness and moral discipline, by teaching them the way of the Lord.

In his goodwill message to mothers on Sunday, the former deputy governor noted that, “mothers should ensure their children understand what they are doing to keep the home running”.
He said: “As a backbone in the family, every mother should sustain that relationship, mother care, but not to be autocratic.
“I pray as we celebrate today, God will continue to grant all of us the grace, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to help our families grow. Growth in the society starts from the family and when families do the right thing, the society will be better for us.
“Your love is the lamp to our feet; your sacrifices, the light that guides our path. Through your care, mentoring, and unwavering prayers, you shape our journey, molding us into who we are.
“You are worth more than Rubies, Diamonds, Jaspers, Emeralds, Sapphires, Musgravites, Alexandrites, Pink Diamonds, Jadeites, and Blue Diamonds combined. The glow of your presence outshines the rarest of gems, for no jewel can match the brilliance of a mother’s love.
Comrade Philip Shaibu said the pains mothers endure, the scars they carry, the stigmas they bear, and the injuries they sustain—all are etched in the deepest chambers of our hearts.
“We wear them as emblems of your heroism, a reflection of the battles you have fought for us.
“Oh, Mothers—how can we forget the nights you stayed awake when we were sick? The days you starved so we could eat? The moments you sold your clothes so we wouldn’t go without? The times you walked barefoot so we could wear shoes? These are the silent sacrifices that define your boundless love, and we carry them with pride.
What would we be without you? Absolutely nothing!
Today, I join the world in celebrating you—our dear Mothers. Thank you for all that you are, for all that you give, and for the love that knows no limits.
Happy Mother’s Day!
