The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) is profoundly shocked and grief-stricken by the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a talented journalist, reporter, and presenter with Arise Television. We follow with keen interest the ongoing investigation by the Nigeria Police and appreciate their efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding this painful incident.

However, NAWOJ insists that the investigation must be thorough, impartial, transparent, and expedited to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and face the full weight of the law. Only decisive action will serve as a credible deterrent against further attacks on journalists and citizens.
Somtochukwu Maduagwu’s dedication to her craft, professionalism, and creative energy made her a distinguished member of the media community. Her untimely passing is a grievous loss to her family, Arise TV, and the public she served.
This tragedy highlights the urgent need for government and security agencies to guarantee the safety of journalists, particularly female journalists, who often face heightened vulnerabilities. We call for enhanced protective measures, support systems, and preventive security strategies nationwide.
On behalf of NAWOJ, I extend our heartfelt condolences to Somtochukwu’s family, colleagues, and the media community. We mourn the loss of this vibrant talent and urge the authorities to ensure swift justice.
We demand that the relevant authorities:
- Conduct a thorough and transparent investigation
- Bring the perpetrators to account and ensure they face the full weight of the law
- Enhance security measures to protect journalists and citizens
May Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu’s soul rest in peace.
