Niger : NAWOJ Calls for Reflection, Unity, and Compassion as Ramadan Begins

From Rashidat Suleiman, Minna

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) extends warm greetings and best wishes to all Muslims across Nigeria and beyond.

This sacred period offers an opportunity for deep reflection, spiritual renewal, and unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah.

The statement signed on Saturday by Asabe Garba
Chairperson, NAWOJ said Ramadan is a time for fasting, prayer, and self-discipline, but it is also a period that emphasizes compassion, generosity, and unity.

As women in the media, we recognize the role of communication in fostering peace and understanding. We urge all women journalists to use their platforms to promote messages of harmony, tolerance, and social responsibility, especially in these times of economic and social challenges.

NAWOJ calls on all individuals, organizations, and government agencies to support the less privilege by extending kindness and charity to those in need.

The spirit of Zakat (charity) and Sadaqah (voluntary giving) should be embraced to strengthen our communities and ensure that no one is left behind.

Furthermore, we appeal for peaceful coexistence among all religious and ethnic groups, as unity is the foundation for national progress.

We encourage our fellow women journalists to uphold the highest ethical standards in reporting, ensuring that the values of truth, fairness, and responsibility remain the core of our profession
