NILOWV Marks 2024 Humanitarian Day

Dear esteemed members of the League of Women Voters of Nigeria, today we commemorate World Humanitarian Day, a day set aside to recognize and honor the selfless efforts of humanitarians around the world who risk their lives to save others. As we celebrate this day, I am reminded of the tireless efforts of our founder Dame Dr Esther Uduehi for offering herself to drive this vision for 27 years of her life and our dear enthusiastic and dedicated members who have worked relentlessly to promote democracy, good governance, and human rights in Nigeria.

As women, we have always been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts, providing support and care to those in need. Our organization has been a shining example of this, working to empower women and promote peaceful coexistence in our communities. Today, we celebrate the impact of our work and the difference we have made in the lives of countless individuals especially women seeking for political leadership and positions in government.

Is our work is far from over? No! As we celebrate, we are also reminded of the many challenges that still lie ahead. We must continue to advocate for the rights of women and girls, promote inclusive governance, and support those affected by conflict and disaster. We must also recognize the critical role that women play in humanitarian efforts and work to amplify their voices.

To our members, I say thank you for your dedication and commitment to our cause. Your tireless efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of many, and I am honored to work alongside each and every one of you. Let us continue to work together to build a more just and equitable society for all.

As we celebrate World Humanitarian Day, let us also remember those who have lost their lives in humanitarian service. We honor their memory by continuing their work and striving for a world where all people can live in peace and dignity.

May we continue to be beacons of hope and change in our communities.

President,
League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV)
