Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has said hunger and worsening economic hardship have become the greatest form of harassment confronting Nigerians, urging citizens to demand better governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi, the 2027 NDC presidential candidate spoke on Friday while addressing journalists at the burial of the late Simon Okorie Abaa, father of former House of Representatives Member Linus Okorie, at St. Fintan’s Catholic Church, Enugu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Responding to concerns about possible intimidation of opposition supporters during the 2027 elections, Obi said every Nigerian was already suffering from the country’s economic crisis.
“For me, every Nigerian is already being harassed. Hunger is harassing everybody. The worsening economic situation is affecting everyone. Go to any village, and you will see that people are suffering. It is time for Nigerians to tell those governing us that enough is enough,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor lamented the rising level of poverty in the country, noting that Nigerians did not need official statistics to appreciate the severity of the hardship because it was evident across communities.
On the 2027 elections, Obi said Nigerians should place their confidence in the people rather than the electoral umpire, insisting that citizens have the power to ensure that their votes count if they remain resolute.
