Ohakim in Trouble Over Comment Against Imo PDP Guber Candidate, Anyanwu

A group, Okigwe Zone Youths Alliance, has lambasted a former Governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, over comments he purportedly made about the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state’s November 11, 2023 election, Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

The group alleged Ohakim had in a media report (Not PUNCH) advised the PDP candidate to not waste his resources to contest against the incumbent, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Ohakim was also quoted to have said that the PDP governorship candidate does not have any chance of defeating Uzodinma in the election due to his “verifiable achievements.”

Ohakim was reportedly said to have made this statement while addressing members of the Imo State Council of Elders last weekend.

However, in a statement on Monday by its Global Coordinator, Barr Chimezie Nduka, OZOYA described Ohakim’s comments as careless and misleading.

The group maintained that such advice was coming from a former governor of the state at a time when “stakeholders across the state are joining hands to sack this vicious All Progressives Congress administration that created insecurity, sponsored killings and kidnappings is most regrettable.”

OZOYA wondered how Ohakim “suddenly became Uzodinma’s counsellor or spokesperson to the extent of predicting victory for him six months before election when the same Uzodinma and his allies in our zone, Okigwe zone displaced him politically and denied him the APC Senatorial ticket of zone in the last party primaries.”

The statement read, “If Ohakim’s administration was incapable of developing his own Okigwe zone, restore peace, enthrone political balance and make Imo a better place to live, then, what moral ground or justification does he have to canvass support for a government that has thrown the entire state to a theatre of war.

“Ohakim should remember that up till today, Okigwe zone and Imo people at large have not forgiven him for allegedly slapping an innocent Catholic Reverend Father, and flogging a renowned activist and writer in the state. What he should have done first was to apologise to Imo people and seek their forgiveness before telling them who will win and who will lose in the next Governorship election. Recall that the same Ohakim once told Imo people that he would win by a wide margin, only for his prediction to become his Achilles heels.”

The group further flayed Ohakim for noting condemning “the wanton killings of innocent Imo youths in Orsu, Oru East, and Oru West in Orlu Zone, Ihube, Lokpa Ukwu/Nta and Ezinnachi in Okigwe zone, Ngor Okpala and some parts of Mbaise In Owerri Zone.”

OZOYA advised the PDP candidate to remain unfazed by Ohakim’s wrong prediction simply because “we are convinced that Uzodinma will lose the election since no one supported by Ohakim has ever won election before.”
