In recent weeks, Nigeria has witnessed series of painful, avoidable attacks and kidnappings that have claimed innocent lives and inflicted deep trauma on families and communities. I extend my heartfelt sympathy to every Nigerian affected by these tragedies. No society should endure this level of fear, and no citizen should live under constant threat.
Nigeria is not destined to be unsafe. Our nation has abundant resilience, talent, and collective strength. The insecurity we face today is not a reflection of fate but a direct consequence of orchestrated negligence, systemic complacency, and failures that have persisted for far too long. These lapses continue to embolden violent actors who thrive in the gaps created by inaction.
I therefore call on all levels of government—federal, state, and local—to rise to their primary responsibility of safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. Security is not a privilege; it is a constitutional right and a moral obligation. The government must demonstrate greater seriousness, coordination, and accountability in confronting these threats.
Nigeria cannot progress under the weight of fear. The time to act decisively is now. Our people deserve safety, dignity, and the assurance that their leaders are fully committed to protecting them.
May comfort come to the families grieving, strength to the communities in distress, and wisdom to those entrusted with the authority to secure our nation.
