Recontesting is allowed in the NUJ Constitution for all Members – Isiguzo

The National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chris Isiguzo has said that any EXCO member that perform is allowed to re- contest for another term.

The National President, represented by the Zonal Chairman, Zone E, Comrade Zare Baba disclose this during the Triennial Deligate Congress of the Taraba State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists held at the NUJ Press Center, Jalingo.

“If an Officer perform well, he should be given the opportunity to re – contest.

“Positions should be circulated within all and not to few Chapels, for the Union is not for a particular tribe or religion, but for all members.

He appreciated Governor Kefas Agbu for his support to the Union, and assure him that the Union would continue to partner with him to move the state forward.

Earlier, the Outgoing Chairman of the Union, Comrade David Nya, appreciated members for giving him the opportunity to serve them and urge them to extend same corporation to the incoming administration.

“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to members whom in one way or the other on the cause of my official duties step on their toes, to please forgive me.

He appreciated Governor Kefas Agbu for releasing funds for the election and supporting the Union, adding that the Union would continue to partner with the State Government in its efforts in developing the state.

“I want to say that this is the first and best time that an EXCO is experiencing peaceful co – existence. We have witnessed a rancho free EXCO – he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Credentials Committee, Justin Tyopuusu appreciated members for the maturity during the election.

He said a total of 121 Journalists partake in the election and the result is as follows:
Irakunya Tapu – 57 votes while Denis Apollos Gilenya – 64 votes. The Oath of Office was administered by the Zone E, Comrade Zareh Baba.

In his acceptance speech, the Newly elected Chairman of the Union, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen, describe the new EXCO as a new era in the history of the pen profession in Taraba State.

“First let me thank God for making it possible for me to be elected as the chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Taraba State Chapter today being 28th of September 2023.

“The circumstances of my emergence as a candidate and hence my election if not a miracle is something like it – he said.

He appreciated former NUJ chairmen in the state who laid the foundation of his success.

“I must sincerely thank them for the thrust. In whatever way you might have contributed towards the attainment of our victory,as a team, the newly elected EXCO are saying we are grateful for your sacrifices that brought us on board.

“And as we know, Governor Kefas Agbu is doing much more than expected for the good of our dear State Taraba and citizenry.We can say no segment of the society that is not feeling the true impacts and dividends of democracy in Taraba.

According to him, the NUJ in Taraba will go all out to give the best of support to the Government of Governor Kefas as the Fourth Tier of Government.

“We will as regime have no option than to go for our common unity and purpose and do away with trivial difference that adds no value to our corporate existence and progress – he added.

The Newly elected state officials are:

Mr. Eliud Matthew Jen – Chairman, Alh. Ado Adamu Also – V/Chairman and Mr. Apollos Denis – Secretary.

Others are Mr. Jethro Sayo – Asst/Secretary, Mrs. Hilda Adebayo – Treasurer, Mrs. Victoria Roland – Internal Auditor and Mr. Sylvanus Viashima – Financial Secretary.
