The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has held an in-house workshop with the theme “Respect: A Priceless Attribute of Amazons,” aimed at promoting professionalism, mutual respect, and unity among female journalists in the state.

Speaking during the session, the resource person, Comrd. Fortunate Ozo, Assistant Manager (News) with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and former Ebonyi NAWOJ Chairperson, described respect as a virtue that defines true amazons women of strength and integrity in the journalism profession.

Ozo noted that respect should be shown to all people regardless of status, age, or race. “We should respect people because they are made in the image of God, not because they deserve it. Even when they don’t reciprocate, we must respect people of all classes and constituted authority,” she said.

Citing biblical references from 1 Peter and Romans 12:10 and 13:1, she reminded journalists of the need to honor and pray for those in leadership. “No leader emerges without God. If we love God, we must obey and respect those He has placed in authority,” she added.

Ozo further urged journalists to maintain self-respect and professional ethics in their work. “When you respect yourself, you won’t struggle for PR or brown envelopes. Your blessing will find you, and people of worth will seek your company because respect attracts dignity,” she said.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Nkechinyere Oginyi, said the workshop was designed to sharpen members’ professional skills and reinforce the value of mutual respect among women journalists.

She appreciated Ozo for accepting to serve as the resource person despite the short notice, describing her as “a model of excellence and mentorship in journalism.”

The interactive session encouraged journalists to uphold ethical standards, build self-confidence, and foster teamwork for a stronger and more respected media community in Ebonyi State.
