The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, Comrade Philip Shaibu, on Tuesday led the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Austin Eguavoen, and CAF officials on an inspection of the institute facilities in Abuja.
The inspection was aimed at showcasing that NIS facilities are ready for the conduct of CAF license courses.
The exercise is to ensure that current and future students of the institute can obtain CAF certification with less stress.
Speaking during the tour, Shaibu said the institute is committed to providing world-class training facilities for sports development.
He stressed that NIS remains the apex institution for coaching education in Nigeria and must meet continental standards.
It would be recalled that NIS recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Nigeria Football Federation for the conduct of all CAF coaching license programmes.
The agreement is expected to boost coaching education in Nigeria.
Eguavoen expressed satisfaction with the quality and standard of facilities inspected at the institute.
He noted that the collaboration will enhance the capacity of Nigerian coaches and improve football development across the country.
The DG reaffirmed that NIS under his leadership will continue to partner with relevant bodies to upgrade its infrastructure.
He said the goal is to make Nigeria a hub for sports training and certification in Africa.
