The South East region has embarked on the construction of an ultra-modern International Conference Centre (ICC) Hotel in Enugu State to boost business, tourism, and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

The main structure of the ICC Hotel has been completed, signaling a new phase for the West African convention and exhibition economy. The project, undertaken by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), is regarded as a significant step in Nigeria’s economic diversification and regional revitalization.

General Manager of CCCC Nigeria, Feng Yu, said the company would continue to uphold the principle of “co-construction, win-win, and lean construction” to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of the project. He disclosed that the next phase would involve interior finishing, mechanical and electrical installation, and other works required for full completion.

The ICC Hotel recently held its topping-out ceremony, marking key progress in what has been described as a landmark regional project. Located in the heart of Enugu, just three kilometers from the State Government House, the facility covers a total construction area of about 35,000 square meters, comprising three 10-story towers and a podium.

Despite challenges such as a tight construction schedule, rainy season delays, and complex technical requirements, the project management team deployed scientific planning, strict coordination, and resource optimization to ensure steady progress.

Designed as a hub for business and tourism, the ICC Hotel is expected to provide the South East with world-class conference and hospitality facilities. Enugu’s strategic location, rich Igbo cultural heritage, and proximity to major cities and ports make it a natural choice for such a development.

According to Feng Yu, the project not only aligns with Nigeria’s push for economic diversification through tourism and the services sector but also reflects strengthened infrastructure cooperation between Nigeria and China under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The ICC Hotel, when completed, is projected to become a flagship of sustainable development and a driver of regional business and tourism growth in Nigeria.
