The Director-General of the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has commended Leadway Insurance for championing voluntary blood donation through its nationwide campaign, organized as part of activities to mark the company’s 55th anniversary.
The blood donation exercise was held simultaneously across Leadway offices in Nigeria, with staff members enthusiastically participating. In Abuja, the company’s premises were transformed into a life-saving center, where employees turned up in large numbers to donate blood, showing that corporate milestones can also be celebrated through acts of humanity.

Speaking at the event, NBSA described the partnership as an inspiring example of how corporate organizations can support national health priorities. The Agency emphasized that Nigeria still faces a huge gap between the demand and supply of safe blood, and that voluntary donations like these remain vital to meeting emergency needs.
The NBSA Director-General praised Leadway for not only celebrating its anniversary but also using the occasion to make a positive difference in communities. According to him, the company’s effort demonstrates that every anniversary or corporate milestone can be used to give back in meaningful ways that touch lives directly.

He further noted that voluntary blood donation plays a crucial role in saving lives, particularly in cases involving accident victims, women with pregnancy complications, children with severe anemia, and patients undergoing surgeries. By mobilizing its workforce for the exercise, Leadway has contributed to bridging Nigeria’s blood shortage while also promoting a culture of regular donation.
Leadway Insurance, in its remarks, said the initiative was part of its social responsibility and a reflection of its values as a company built on care, commitment, and community. The organization expressed pride in the willingness of its staff to participate, stressing that their selfless action symbolizes the true meaning of celebrating 55 years of existence.
NBSA assured that it would continue working with corporate organizations, civil society groups, and individuals to expand voluntary blood donation drives across the country. The Agency also restated its mission of ensuring that Nigerians have access to safe and adequate blood whenever and wherever it is needed.
With the theme “Saving Lives Together”, the blood donation campaign highlighted the power of partnerships in strengthening the health system. As both NBSA and Leadway Insurance reaffirmed, “every drop counts, and every life matters.”
