Stand With Officers Who Fight Corruption …Caring Sisters Initiative

By Sharon Akuboh, Abuja

The Caring Sisters Initiative has carefully followed the public conversation surrounding the investigation handled by police officer Nkeiruka Nwode concerning the alleged withdrawal of over N100 million from the bank account of a detained suspect in Anambra State.

From the details now available in the public domain, it is evident that Officer Nwode took steps that align with what Nigerians have consistently demanded from law enforcement officers — professionalism, transparency, and the courage to investigate wrongdoing, even when it may involve individuals within the system.

If indeed she escalated the complaint, pursued the trail of financial transactions, tracked suspects across borders, and sought to uncover the truth behind the alleged fraud, then such actions should be encouraged rather than met with intimidation or blackmail.

As a civil society organisation committed to justice, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights, Caring Sisters Initiative believes that officers who demonstrate integrity in the course of their duties deserve institutional protection and public recognition. At the same time, we emphasize that the investigation should be allowed to proceed transparently so that the truth can fully emerge.

Nigeria can only build public trust in its institutions when those who stand for justice are supported and when allegations of corruption or abuse are addressed without fear or favour.
We therefore call on the relevant authorities to ensure that Officer Nwode is given a fair hearing, protected from undue harassment, and allowed to present all evidence related to the case.
Justice must not only be done; it must also be seen to be done.

This was contained in a statement signed by Princess Joy Omagha Idam,
Founder, Caring Sisters Initiative.
