Support for Women Farmers Key to Food Security, Gov Bago Declares at NISWAB Anniversary

Niger State Governor, Farmer Umar Mohammed Bago, has applauded Niger Foods and other key stakeholders for their unwavering support in empowering women farmers across the state.

The Governor Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ahmed Mathew, at the one year anniversary celebration of the Niger State Women in Agricultural Business Cooperatives Apex Limited (NISWAB), the Governor noted that these collaborative efforts have significantly improved food production and strengthened the economic independence of rural women.

He stressed that the partnership between government agencies, private organisations, and community groups remains essential to boosting agricultural output and ensuring that women farmers receive the tools, training, and resources needed to excel in the sector.

Governor Bago further highlighted that empowering women in agriculture is central to his administration’s vision for food security, rural development, and sustainable growth. He commended Niger Foods for its continued provision of improved seedlings, farming equipment, and capacity building programmes that directly benefit women farmers.

He encouraged other stakeholders to emulate these contributions, adding that supporting women in farming will not only reduce poverty but also play a crucial role in driving the state’s development and achieving national agricultural goals.

Earlier, the President of NISWAB, Aishatu Suleiman, expressed appreciation to Governor Bago for believing in women and for his consistent support, while also acknowledging all relevant bodies for their contributions.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Niger Foods, Mr. Sammy Adigun, represented by Mr. Alfred Omotugba reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting smallholder farmers with essential farm inputs aimed at helping them achieve financial independence, and he appealed to Nigerlites to continue supporting the value chain.

The event featured a symbolic presentation of awards and an exhibition of farm produce by participating local government areas.
