In a remarkable blend of business and community development, Darlington Ugota, Chairman of Esthinton Group and Executive director/ CEO Valington homes Ltd, has launched the Esthinton Basketball Club in Ebonyi State, pledging continuous support for Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru’s administration.

Ugota, a successful real estate developer with operations across Nigeria, said the initiative was driven by his passion for youth empowerment and social transformation through sports.

“We know the government cannot do everything, and everyone must not be a businessman or civil servant. By supporting talented youths, we are not only keeping them engaged but also complementing the efforts of the government,” he explained.

According to Ugota, the clubs were established to identify and support young people with talents in football and basketball, especially those lacking financial backing.

“Our company has borne all the costs so far from registration to training. We’re doing this to ensure that no talented youth gives the excuse of not having support,” he added.

Ugota noted that his passion for youth development was inspired by personal experiences from his secondary school days in Oneke Ezza South.

“There was a schoolmate who played football exceptionally well. Years later, he ended up doing something completely different, not because he wanted to, but because the support system wasn’t there. That stuck with me.”

Beyond sports, Ugota emphasised that his group is actively mentoring over 700 young people through its real estate businesses. “We run several companies and branches in Abuja, Asaba, and other places. Some of the youths working with us are being taught business skills. We even run a podcast to teach entrepreneurship because we understand that everyone cannot do the same thing.”

When asked about his plans for Ebonyi’s real estate sector, Ugota confirmed: “By God’s grace, we already have a site we’re working on. Before the end of this year, our real estate business will be operational in Ebonyi.”

Speaking ahead of the official launch event, Ugota described the atmosphere as electric, with smiles and excitement already radiating across the community. “It’s a beautiful feeling to give back and see the joy it brings. Tomorrow will be an unforgettable day. His Excellency has assured us of his presence, along with other dignitaries.”

The event will also feature a demonstration by some of the players currently undergoing training, showcasing the impact of the project and the potential it holds for developing a vibrant sports culture in Ebonyi.

Spectators who are on standby for the academy takeoff noted that with initiatives like this, Darlington Ugota is not only redefining corporate social responsibility but also charting a new course for youth empowerment and community development in Ebonyi State.
