Osborne Umahi , the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area, has cast his vote in the Ebonyi State local government election, expressing confidence in victory.
Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, voted at about 11:36 a.m. at Onu-Ofukuru Polling Unit, Uburu, accompanied by his mother, Rachel Umahi.
The polling unit has about 1,200 registered voters.
Speaking shortly after voting, Umahi commended the peaceful conduct of the election and urged voters and political actors to remain calm and law-abiding.
He said he was optimistic that the APC would record a decisive victory, citing what he described as strong support from voters across the local government.
“I am optimistic of a landslide victory because the people have shown tremendous support for our party,” he said.
Umahi had earlier identified youth empowerment and infrastructure development as key priorities of his administration if elected.
According to him, his administration would create opportunities for young people to acquire relevant skills and participate actively in the development of Ohaozara.
“We will give our youths the opportunity to participate actively in the development of our local government. They are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are important stakeholders today,” he said.
He also promised to prioritise infrastructure projects capable of improving living conditions and boosting economic activities across the communities.
Umahi commended residents for coming out to exercise their franchise and urged all contestants and their supporters to accept the outcome of the election.
“At the end of the day, the will of the people must prevail,” he said.
The Ebonyi State local government election is being held across the state to elect chairmen and councillors, with the newly elected chairmen expected to assume office on Sept. 1.
