…As Chairperson calls for collective responsibility and practical solutions to examination challenges
The Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre (ERC) and Chairperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) West African Examinations Council (WAEC) State Committee, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, has called for stronger collaboration among education stakeholders to strengthen the credibility, security and effective administration of public examinations in the Territory.

Dr. Abdulrahim made the call while delivering her opening remarks at the 2026 Annual WAEC FCT State Committee Meeting, where she emphasised the importance of collective responsibility, effective communication and strict adherence to examination guidelines in sustaining public confidence in the education system.
She described the 39th Annual Meeting as an important platform for reviewing examinations conducted during the year, assessing operational challenges, sharing experiences and developing practical strategies to improve subsequent examinations across the FCT.
According to her, the credibility of public examinations remains fundamental to maintaining academic standards and ensuring fairness in the education system. She disclosed that issues raised at the previous meeting had been addressed, while relevant recommendations had been forwarded to the WAEC National Examinations Council for consideration to improve examination administration.

The Chairperson described the Education Resource Centre as the hub of educational examinations in the FCT, noting that the Centre had continued to fulfil its mandate through stakeholder engagement, the setting of examination questions, intensive monitoring of examinations across the six Area Councils, and sensitisation of school administrators and teachers on their responsibilities, professional ethics and compliance with examination regulations.
She stressed that ensuring credible examinations was a shared responsibility that required the commitment of WAEC, school administrators, teachers, examination officials, parents and other relevant stakeholders.
Dr. Abdulrahim urged participants to engage in constructive deliberations, identify practical solutions to prevailing challenges and develop actionable recommendations that would contribute to the successful conduct of future examinations. She also appreciated Committee members for their attendance and cooperation, expressing confidence that the meeting would produce meaningful resolutions.
In his remarks, the President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) FCT Chapter, Dr. Jiya Umar Mohammed, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to discouraging all forms of examination malpractice.
He explained that ANCOPSS had consistently promoted examination integrity through the selection of teachers of proven integrity to serve as examination supervisors. He further emphasised the FCT’s zero-tolerance stance towards examination malpractice.
Dr. Mohammed called on parents and guardians to cooperate with schools and refrain from seeking illegal means of helping their children pass examinations, stressing the need for all stakeholders to uphold the principles of honesty and fairness.
Also speaking, the WAEC Zonal Coordinator, FCT, Mr. Zakariyau Abdullahi, stated that the primary responsibility for preparing candidates for examinations rested with schools. He noted that WAEC had provided the necessary syllabuses and urged school authorities to ensure that teachers effectively covered the prescribed content while creating conducive learning environments for students.
Mr. Abdullahi highlighted WAEC’s e-learning portal as an additional resource for improving candidates’ preparation and examination performance. He encouraged schools to take advantage of the platform to strengthen teaching and learning outcomes.
He cautioned school authorities, principals, teachers and other stakeholders against aiding or abetting examination malpractice, describing the act as a serious offence that WAEC would not treat lightly. He urged all concerned to uphold the rules and regulations governing public examinations.
The Zonal Coordinator commended the FCT Education Resource Centre for its commitment to delivering efficient and effective educational services in the Territory, describing its performance as impactful.
The meeting featured deliberations on the day’s agenda, with Committee members reviewing issues relating to examination administration and considering measures to address identified challenges and improve the conduct of future examinations across the FCT.
