Wike Awaits FEC Approval To Begin Bus Terminals Operation, Hints On Surveillance Centre Establishment

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration is awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to commence operations at the newly completed bus terminals in Abuja.

Wike made this known during an inspection tour of four major roads projects in Wuye, Saburi – Deidei, Karimo – life camp in Abuja.

He revealed that the terminals will not be managed by FCTA Transport Secretariat officials but by competent private operators once approval is secured, a move aimed at ensuring efficiency and professionalism in their operations.

“We are not allowing the Transport Secretariat to manage the terminals. Private operators with competence will handle them once FEC grants approval,” Wike said.

Addressing concerns over vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly streetlights and road installations, the Minister announced plans to establish a surveillance centre to monitor and curb vandalism of Public Infrastructure .

He explained that contractors, including CCECC and CGC, are already integrating security features into streetlight installations, while a situation room will enable remote monitoring to reduce reliance on routine police patrols.

“We contracted out the street lighting to CCECC and CGC. And one of the features, they are going to have security features where you cannot try to manipulate to take it away or vandalise. CCECC is doing well.

“They have almost finished the one on the airport road with security features, because most of these jobs we have done, are being vandalised by criminals.” Wike said.

The Minister also inspected projects handled by Levant Construction Company, Setraco, and Arab Contractors, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

He confirmed that the Wuse–Central Business District Road being constructed by Levant is expected to be delivered by June, while the Arterial N1 Road in Wuye by Arab Contractors may be completed by December.

In addition, Wike visited the 17-kilometre road linking Life Camp and Dei-Dei International Market, noting that ongoing projects have significantly opened up the FCT and stimulated economic activities.

Responding to questions on funding, Wike clarified that the projects are largely financed through the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), as allocations from the Federation Account are barely sufficient to cover salaries.

The Minister commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as visionary and transformative leadership that has reshaped the landscape of Abuja.

He expressed confidence that, with sustained commitment and aggressive revenue drive, the FCT Administration will continue to deliver impactful infrastructure projects for residents.
