Army Continues Attack on Amasiri Community
Residents of Amasiri have raised fresh alarm over continued military aggression in the community, following another deadly incident involving unarmed civilians.
On January 31st, Nigerian Army personnel reportedly opened fire on a group of unarmed women in Amasiri, Ebonyi State, during a peaceful movement within the community. Witnesses say the women posed no threat and were not involved in any form of violence. They were mainly demanding for release of their sons, arrested.

Tragically, one of the women who sustained gunshot injuries later died, while several others are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries. Community members described the incident as unprovoked and excessive use of force against innocent civilians.
“This is what the Army is doing to our people,” a resident said. “These were women—unarmed, defenseless—yet they were shot at. One of them eventually died.”
The latest attack has heightened fear and tension in Amasiri, as residents accuse security forces of continuous harassment, intimidation, and violence against civilians, particularly women and the elderly.
Community leaders and human rights advocates are calling on the Federal Government, the Chief of Army Staff, and relevant authorities to immediately investigate the incident, withdraw troops engaging civilians, and ensure justice for the victim and those injured.
They warn that continued silence and inaction may further escalate the humanitarian situation in the area. The Army are said to have returned again February 1st this time Raining Tear Gas all over the community.
