16 Days Activism : Women in Rotary FCT Commemorates Day with Awareness Walk

As part of her activity to commemorate the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (GBV), Women in Rotary FCT Chapter embarked on an Awareness Walk to lend a voice to GBV campaign.

It is another time when global focus is on the yet to be defeated social problem GBV, mostly inflicted on women and girls. With the global campaign gaining more Ground, Women in Rotary FCT Chapter are adding to the number and participation against this global challenge.

The Awareness walk took the gallant women from the Old Parade Ground Area 10 Garki, through some major streets of Garki, was attended by members with high moral to drive the message across to the public.

Speaking to Weekenders Rtn Ijeoma Agwu, declared that “we are creating this awareness by taking a walk to tell the public that its no longer business as usual. To carry out any form of violence against women and children.

For Rtn Olujumoke Ekeinde, she says We must analyze the 7 key areas of focus and one of the key area of focus is Peace, Conflict Prevention and Resolution. It falls under, that we encourage people to live peacefully, and that violence is not an option.

According to Rtn Evelyn Onyilo, Founder INWOAD and Former President NAWOJ, she said to get it right we “ Everyone Should invest their time, talent, resources in fighting GBV, in homes and offices”.

She noted that “they are there in the office, where some women are being sexually harassed. In homes, domestic staff are being beaten. We therefore seek to move from spousal abuse to speak on behalf of the children”.

Women in Rotary openly said “No and Zero tolerance for SGBV”.
