The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, High Chief Chukwuma Odii, has formally resigned his membership of the party in Ebonyi State.

Odii’s resignation was conveyed in a letter dated January 1, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Amanator Ward, Isuachara, Onicha Local Government Area of the state.

In the letter, the former governorship candidate stated that his decision to leave the party followed extensive consultations with his family and close associates, describing the move as a well-thought-out and deliberate step taken after careful reflection.

He expressed deep appreciation to the PDP leadership and members across the state for the opportunity and platform offered to him, which enabled him to contest the 2023 gubernatorial election under the party’s banner.

Odii acknowledged the support, cooperation and goodwill he received from party stakeholders throughout his political engagement with the PDP.

“I write to officially inform you that, following wide consultations with my family and close associates, I have taken a considered decision to resign my membership of the PDP with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.

He further thanked the party for the understanding and cooperation extended to him during his time as a member, and requested that the letter be accepted as his formal notice of resignation.

As of the time of filing this report, Odii did not disclose his next political move, while the PDP leadership in the state is yet to issue an official response to his resignation.

His exit comes amid ongoing political realignments in Ebonyi State ahead of future electoral contests.
