2025 Budget : Gov Yusuf Unveils N549 billion for Development

The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill valued at N549,160,417,663.00 to the State Assembly for review and passage into law. The 2025 budget is targeted at developmental projects.

Presenting the budget at the Assembly today, Governor Yusuf noted that the capital expenditure is projected at N312,634,912,672.18, while the recurrent expenditure is estimated at N236,525,504,990.82.

The budget, titled “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” prioritizes education, infrastructure, and human capital development.

The governor disclosed that the education sector received the highest allocation of N168,350,802,346.19, accounting for 31 percent of the budget. Governance institutions follow with N98,242,089,019.58, representing 17.57 percent.

In addition, the health sector is allocated N90,600,835,766.48 (16.50%), infrastructure development N70,682,843,744.15 (12.87%), and agriculture N21,038,199,190.76 (3.83%).

Other key allocations include water supply and rural development with N27,235,112,601.05 (4.96%); security, justice, and emergency services at N23,457,527,026.06 (4.00%); and women, youth, and people with special needs at N17,337,360,000, representing 3.15 percent.

Governor Yusuf further revealed that the environment and sanitation sector is allocated N15,523,154,078.47 (2.83%), transport development N12,805,155,000 (2.33%), and manufacturing, commerce, industry, and tourism N3,887,338,871.45, representing 1.22 percent of the total budget proposal.

Expressing appreciation to the Assembly for its cooperation, the governor informed lawmakers that several policies and reforms will require legislative backing, with many bills expected to be submitted to the Assembly in 2025.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that this budget aims to help realize the collective aspirations for Kano State. This was contained in a Statement issued by Sanusi Nature DawakinTofa, Spokesperson to the Kano State Governor.

“It is our belief that the full and proper implementation of the budget’s provisions will lead to economic prosperity and reduce dependency on federal grants,” the governor stressed.

“We have deliberately taken steps to avoid the missteps and maladministration experienced over the last eight years. Our aim is to create an efficient public service that meets the standards of good governance and boosts worker morale,” he added.

In response, Speaker Falgore thanked the governor for the timely presentation of the appropriation bill. He assured that the Assembly would begin deliberations soon and called on all ministries, departments, and agencies to prepare for budget defense before the House.
