…NIS DG backs Busari, expresses confidence in coach ahead of historic Japan showdown
The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), H.E. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has charged Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, to make history by defeating Japan and bringing home the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup trophy.
Shaibu gave the charge while expressing confidence in the team’s Head Coach, Hakeem Busari, ahead of the historic final scheduled for tomorrow.
The NIS boss described the encounter as a golden opportunity for Nigeria to win its first-ever title in the competition, urging the players and technical crew to rise to the occasion and deliver a memorable victory for the country.
He particularly expressed confidence in Busari’s technical ability, describing him as a proud product and alumnus of the National Institute for Sports, Lagos.
According to Shaibu, Busari obtained his initial coaching qualification from the institute in 1999 before returning for the NIS Higher Programmes between 2003 and 2006. He subsequently received his final coaching certificates in October 2006.
“As an alumnus of the NIS, I believe in Coach Busari’s ability and pedigree. He has been properly trained and groomed here, and I have no doubt that he has what it takes to lead the Flamingos to victory,” Shaibu said.
He noted that the institute was proud of Busari’s professional journey and his contributions to the development of Nigerian football.
Shaibu further described the final against Japan as a defining moment for the Flamingoes, stressing that victory would not only secure a historic achievement for Nigeria but also inspire a new generation of female footballers.
He called on Nigerians across the country to rally behind the team, offering their prayers, encouragement and unwavering support as the young football stars prepare for the decisive encounter.
With history beckoning, the NIS Director-General urged the Flamingos to remain focused, determined and courageous, insisting that the ultimate prize must come home.
