Afikpo LGA Boss Hails Ubeyi DC Coordinator for PEOPLE-CENTERED INITIATIVES, LAUDS GOV. NWIFURU FOR ENABLING ENVIRONMENT

The Executive Chairman of Afikpo Local Government Area, NWACHI, Timothy A. U has commended the Coordinator of Ubeyi Development Centre, Hon. (Mrs.) Aisha Nwachi for her proactive approach to governance and for identifying with the pressing needs of her people.

The Council Chairman gave the commendation on Monday, 17th August 2026 during an empowerment program organized by the Coordinator of Ubeyi DC. At the event held at Enohia Itim Primary School field, the Coordinator floated a Skill Acquisition Centre, empowered 8 Management Committee members and Principal officers with motorcycles and gave ₦1,000,000 cash grant to 3 women to boost their businesses. The event was graced by top government officials, party stakeholders, and beneficiaries.

The Council Chairman noted that the Coordinator has demonstrated true leadership by not only listening to the challenges of her people, but also by taking concrete steps to address them. He specifically referenced the donation of motorbikes and the establishment of the Skill Acquisition Centre as practical measures aimed at improving service delivery and tackling youth unemployment in the area.

“Leadership is about identifying problems and providing solutions. The Coordinator of Ubeyi DC has shown that she understands the pains of her people and is taking bold steps to curb them. This is the kind of grassroots governance that brings development closer to the people,” the Chairman stated.

He applauded His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Builder Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, GGCEHF, Governor of Ebonyi State, for creating an enabling environment that allows Council Chairmen and DC Coordinators across the state to initiate and execute legacy projects.
“The peace, support, and policy direction we enjoy under His Excellency have made it possible for us to think beyond politics and focus on people. Ubeyi DC’s initiatives are a direct reflection of that enabling environment,” he added.

The Executive Chairman assured that the LGA will continue to support and collaborate with all DC Coordinators in Afikpo to ensure that the dividends of democracy get to every community in line with the vision of Governor Nwifuru.

Flagging off the distribution of empowerment materials, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Stephen Uchenna Igwe lauded Hon. Aisha Nwachi for her commitment to grassroots development. He described her efforts as a direct reflection and domestication of the People’s Charter of Needs Agenda of Governor Nwifuru, right at the Development Centre level.

The Commissioner further stated that by bringing government programmes closer to the people, the Coordinator has shown that true governance is about touching lives at the grassroots. He charged other Coordinators across the State to emulate this model of purposeful leadership that prioritizes the welfare of women,youths, and vulnerab*
The Hon. Commissioner for Skill Acquisition and Job Creation, Prof. Nwogo Ajuka Obasi declared that equipping our youths with relevant skills is the surest panacea to unemployment, poverty, and youth restiveness in our society. She emphasized that when young people are trained and empowered, they become job creators instead of job seekers, and agents of stability rather than sources of social unrest.

Prof. Obasi specially commended Hon. (Mrs.) Aisha Nwachi for her visionary leadership in establishing a modern Skill Acquisition Centre within Ubeyi. He noted with delight that the Centre majors on high-demand areas such as ICT, Tailoring, and Hairdressing, which directly align with the Governor’s job creation drive. “This is what community leadership should look like – practical, impactful, and future-focused,” she stated.

Earlier in her address, the Coordinator of Ubeyi Development Centre, Hon. (Mrs.) Aisha Nwachi disclosed that her decision to empower her Management Committee members and Principal officers with motorcycles, give out ₦1,000,000 to 3 women for small businesses, and establish a Skill Acquisition Centre was borne out of her passion to reach out to her people and reduce poverty at the grassroots. She said these interventions are meant to create self-reliance and dignity for beneficiaries.

She reaffirmed her commitment to do more for the people of Ubeyi Development Centre. She promised to expand the scope of empowerment in the coming months to cover more youths, women, and widows, while also strengthening partnerships with the State Government to attract more projects and opportunities to Ubeyi. “Ubeyi will not be left behind in the development train of Governor Nwifuru,” she assured.

Community leaders and beneficiaries present at the event praised both the Council Chairman and the DC Coordinator, describing the partnership between the LGA and the DC as a model for effective grassroots development.
