The State Caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River has endorsed the Venatius Ikem–led State Working Committee (SWC) for a second term in office while introducing new measures to strengthen accountability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a communiqué issued after its meeting in Abuja on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the caucus resolved that members of the SWC whose tenure expires in September 2025 should continue in office for another four years to ensure continuity and stability. Local government executives were also endorsed for a fresh term.

The caucus, however, directed that any local government area dissatisfied with the performance of its representative in the executive committee may initiate a replacement process. It further mandated LGAs whose representatives have defected to other political parties to nominate credible replacements without delay.
The communiqué, signed by Venatius Ikem, State Chairman, Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, Leader of the Party in the state, and Mike Ojisi, Publicity Secretary, commended the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP for reforms aimed at repositioning the party to reclaim power in 2027.
It urged members to remain united, disciplined, and loyal, stressing the importance of grassroots mobilization and stronger communication channels to rebuild confidence among the electorate.
Those present at the meeting included Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, House of Representatives member Godwin Offiono, the party’s 2023 governorship candidate Senator Sandy Onor, and former Deputy Governor Effiok Cobham.
The PDP national leadership has fixed September 13 for local government congresses and September 27 for state congresses across the country.
