The Managing Director of the South South Development Commission, Ms Usoro Akpabio, has reaffirmed the commission’s determination to deepen collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory and other key government institutions to advance development in the South South region.
Akpabio gave the assurance on Wednesday when she led members of the commission’s board on a courtesy visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.

She noted that the commission is committed to promoting economic expansion and sustainable development, stressing that stronger institutional cooperation is essential for integrating the South South region into national development plans.
“On behalf of the South South Development Commission, be assured that we are committed to driving economic growth and sustainable regional development,” Akpabio stated. She added that the commission will intensify engagement with government agencies to boost coordination and accelerate ongoing initiatives.
Responding, Minister Wike urged the board to focus on grassroots development while remaining aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He cautioned the commission against internal disputes and financial misconduct.
“Do not award projects to satisfy selfish interests,” the Minister warned, advising the leadership to work closely with state governors to avoid duplication of projects and ensure proper financial stewardship.
Board Chairman, Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, commended Wike for his role in the creation of the commission and promised that the board would adopt the Minister’s practical approach to infrastructure development.
Created by the Tinubu administration, the South South Development Commission is tasked with accelerating economic growth and infrastructural advancement across the oil producing region.
